PubMed comprises approximately 22 million citations for biomedical literature from life science journals, online books, and MEDLINE, the premier bibliographic database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine® (NLM). PubMed is a free resource developed and maintained by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the NLM, located at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Washington, D.C.

Citations and abstracts from PubMed feature information from a variety of fields, including medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and preclinical sciences. PubMed also provides access to additional relevant Web sites and links to other NCBI molecular biology resources.

If a Web site offers full-text journal articles, PubMed provides links to the corresponding site, as well as additional resources and research tools.
